Madolyn's Favorite Books ...
Maddy loves her books ... and we love reading them to her! It has been so much fun reading to her over the past two years and watching how she has grown with the books. Of course the first thing that she wanted to do was to turn the pages herself. Next, it was getting a reaction out of her. She busted out laughing and then we busted out laughing the first night that I did my animal impersonations! Then it is pointing things out or counting them. She loves to point out the ladybug on each page of "Why is an Orange called an Orange". It was really great when she picked up on the climax of a story. Like at the end of "Too Loud Lilly" everyone says "Hooray for Lilly Hippo!" ... Madolyn would raise her arms and say "Hoooooway!" (she did that for two weeks wherever we went!) And now she is repeating whole lines of the book as we read them. Tonight we read "I am a Bunny" and she really surprised us when she repeated "I lie in the grass and watch the insects buzzing by."
Of course we've been reading these same books over and over again to her night after night for two years! But hey, thats part of the magic of story telling. For me, it was "Goodnight Moon" and for Kristin it was the very same "I am a Bunny".
What's her next step? Oh, I don't know. We'll just keep on reading to her and let her show us!

Matt--
My profession has exposed me to a lot of good and bad picture books. One of my favorites is Fanny's Dream by Caralyn and Mark Buehner. Another one is Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge by Mem Fox. Have no idea how they'll fly with Maddie, but I think they're pretty great.
And yeah, we definitely need to have some wings soon. Let me know when.
