Rainy, Wet, Soggy ...

But in the end, our camping trip this weekend was so much fun. Certainly all of the ingredients were there for a memorable camping trip ... A large family outing, Madolyn's first, good weather unpredictably gone bad, and one sleepless night with a dash of throw-up on dad for good measure.

Besides, does anyone ever remember the perfect fair weather camping trips? Growing up, it was always the things that we didn't expect that made the trips so memorable. First of all, if someone didn't throw-up, then it automatically does not qualify as a memorable camping trip. Secondly, no one in our family ever purposely tried to set themselves (Dan) or others (Opa) on fire to make a memory. And last, weather always gives the campers something to talk about and is almost always one of the most memorable events of any good camping trip.

Perhaps the single most memorable event on this particular trip was Madolyn's first (and second) fish. Caught on Waveland Lake with a Barbie fishing pole, a red and white bobber, and a little red worm. After some searching for "the right spot" (which we really had our doubts about) Madolyn had one hooked in less than a minute. I think I'm in for some future competition :)
